Thus, the top number is the systolic measurement, and the bottom number is the diastolic measurement. Blood is composed of plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Blood is the transport method by which nutrients are distributed throughout the body, so healthy blood means that all the parts of your body are more able to receive needed nutrients.

Plasma is the liquid portion of the blood, and it is mostly water. It is in the plasma that the red and white blood cells and the platelets are suspended, along with nutrients, hormones, and clotting factors. White blood cells, or leukocytes, are the soldiers of your immune system. They, like red blood cells, are produced in your bone marrow.
